FIFA BALLON D'OR SHORT LIST NEYMAR JOINS MESSI AND RONALDO
The original 23-man list has been reduced to just three names and includes two Barcelona players, with the winner to be revealed at a ceremony in Zurich on January 11, 2016
Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar will contest the 2015 Ballon d'Or competition after the shortlist was whittled down from 23 names to just three.
Messi is the favourite to land the accolade, having led Barcelona to a famous treble last season, while Ronaldo is looking to defend his crown and draw level with the Argentine for overall wins.
Were he to pick up the Ballon d'Or at the ceremony in Zurich on January 11, 2016, it would be Messi's fifth World Player of the Year title, more than any other player.
This year he is joined on the podium by Barca team-mate Neymar, who netted 10 goals en route to Champions League glory, including scoring in the final against Juventus in Berlin.
The Brazilian was also the joint-third top scorer in La Liga last season with 22 goals – and already has 14 this term – though his haul was put in the shade by those of Messi (43 goals) and topscorer Ronaldo (48).
For the sixth straight time, the final three-man Ballon d’Or shortlist does not include a single Premier League player, while it is a decade since an Englishman last made the final three (Frank Lampard in 2005).
The women's nominees for their respective prize are the USA's Carli Lloyd, Japan's Aya Miyama and Germany's Celia Sasic.
EFCC arrests former Minister, others over alleged $2billion arms deal
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, and a number of top officials from the office of the National Security Adviser over the controversial arms procurement scandal surrounding former NSA, Sambo Dasuki.
Multiple sources at the EFCC told PREMIUM TIMES Mr. Yuguda was arrested Monday afternoon and was currently being quizzed by detectives.
Our sources said a huge amount of money; “running into billions” was allegedly traced to the former minister from funds meant for arms procurement.
“The funds were directly transferred to him from the NSA office and he has been unable to explain the rationale for the transfer,” a source said.
“The transfers were made to his account between December 2014 and May 2015.”
Also arrested over the same matter, according to our sources, are some senior officials at the NSA office, including the director of finance.
“The suspects are being grilled by crack detectives and may not be allowed to go home soon,” one source said.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said he was yet to be briefed on the arrests.
“I’m aware that our detectives are looking into the case but I’m not sure who and who has been taken in,” Mr. Uwujaren said on telephone.
He promised to revert as soon details become available.
A presidential investigations committee into arms procurement under the Goodluck Jonathan administration had said in its interim report that it found extra-budgetary spending by the Jonathan administration to the tune of N643.8 billion and an additional $2.2 billion in the foreign currency component.
But Mr. Dasuki has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, saying all contracts and accruing payments on arms procurement were made based on the approval of Mr. Jonathan, adding that due process and military procurement regulations were followed in all the transactions.
“Nigerians should note that all the services generated the types of equipment needed, sourced suppliers most times and after consideration by the Office of the NSA, the President will approve application for payment,” Mr. Dasuki in a recent statement.
Mr. Jonathan however said in Washington last week that his government never awarded any contract in the range of $2 billion dollars.
“I did not award any $2 billion contract for procurement of weapons,” Mr. Jonathan said, querying, “Where did the money come from?” and repeating emphatically that “I did not award a contract of $2billion for procurement of weapons”.

Appeal Court sacks David Mark, orders fresh election
The Appeal court sitting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital yesterday nullified the election of former senate president, Senator David Mark and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to within 90 days conduct a fresh election in the senatorial district.
Delivering judgment in the case, Justice Peter Ige declared that the election of the former senate president failed to comply with the electoral act, adding that the lower tribunal erred in not scrutinizing the evidence of PW 17 on the issue of collating results a day after Mark had been declared winner of the March 28 election.
“Having failed to comply with the electoral act, I set aside the judgment of the lower tribunal and order that INEC shall within 90 days hold election in the zone.”
Justice Ige who cited various legal authorities to back up his judgment submitted that the appellant proved his case beyond reasonable doubt, that as at the time the respondent was declared winner of the senatorial election on March 28, results from seven local governments were still being awaited.
He posited further that none of the ten witnesses called by the respondent could controvert the arguments of the appellant that the result of the election was announced before the collation of all the results especially from the said seven local governments.
“The appellant has shown by oral evidence that collation of results were still ongoing in seven local governments as at 29/03/15 when the first respondent was declared winner of the election. None of the 10 witnesses could controvert that all collated results were done a day after the returning officer declared the first respondent winner of the election.”
The Judge who maintained that the appellant formulated six issues for consideration in his appeal said that the first three were in favour of the appellant; four and five in favour of the respondent, while sixth was struck out.
Justice Ige, therefore, declared that since the results of seven out of nine local governments in the senatorial district were still being collated as at the time the former senate president was declared winner of the election, “this court hereby set aside the judgment of the lower tribunal and invalidate the election of Mark.”

South Africa threatens to imprison Oyakhilome
HEAD of South Africa’s Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities, Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva, has said Chris Oyakhilome, founder of Believers Love World Incorporated, also known as Christ Embassy, risks a jail sentence in the country.
In an interview with News24, Mkhwanazi-Xaluva accused Oyakhilome and heads of some churches of failing to disclose monies received from members.
“Some of these religious leaders will face prison if they do not comply and we have been clear about our course of action,” she was quoted as saying. Mkhwanazi-Xaluva reportedly said Oyakhilome had indicated that he would fight the commission in court before making his records public. “If he intends on that route, we are ready. He will have to face the same fate as the others who refuse to hand over their financial records.
“These people take money from people. What are they doing with that money? We want to know. We will not back down. Some religious leaders have also threatened the commission, which is leading us toward the legal route. Saps have been notified already. We are forced to take the legal route because some of them are not complying and we cannot be held to ransom by a few,” she said.source the sun
DSS men want to kill Nnamdi Kanu in detention –Sister
PRINCESS Chinwe Kanu, the younger sister of detained Director of Radio Biafra and leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has raised the alarm over the health condition of her elder brother, saying that personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) want to kill him in detention.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Sun at her father’s compound in Afara Ukwu, Umuahia, Abia State, Princess Kanu said what she saw of her elder brother when she attended his trial in Abuja on Monday made her to conclude that the DSS wants to kill him while in their custody.
“Honestly, the way they are going about this case I’m not comfortable with it because when I saw my brother, he looked like a shadow of his former self. He looked pale and anaemic and he has physical pain as a result of torture, starvation and the hardship he is going through in the hands of the DSS operatives,” she alleged.
“After the court session, when he (Nnamdi) came out, as the IPOB members and the Biafrans were outside the gate while some were in the court premises hailing him and chanting: “Nnamdi, Nnamdi ka anyi ga-eso”, the way the DSS man roughhandled him, he almost fell down. I don’t know what his reasons were, but I’m happy Nnamdi never challenged him.
She said the DSS should know that her brother was not a criminal, but only a prisoner of conscience. “They held him so tight that he screamed and I felt bad. Because his health is deteriorating by the day, I am calling on rights activists, the international crime code, the Amnesty International, the UN and the British commission to come and rescue their citizen in the hands of the DSS. They are so mean and wicked, they will kill him if care is not taken”, she pleaded.
Expressing joy that she saw her brother in high spirits inside the courtroom which she said the family was not allowed to enter if not for the intervention of their law- yer, Princess Kanu said she has confidence that God will set the director of Radio Biafra free in the next adjourned date.
“I have confidence in what Eze Chukwuokike Abiama (God) will do because He is not a man that He will lie neither is He a man that He can disappoint us or deceive us and because His word is yea and Amen and because He is the one that brought His son out, He will not abandon or leave him that’s what I believe in,” Kanu said.
She said it was a shame the DSS that was supposed to serve and protect the citizen, on the contrary, it is torturing and starving them to death. “My brother was assaulted publicly in the court premises and I’m standing here with an evidence to show the world what is going on the injustice and nepotism that is going on in Nigeria. I’m afraid of my live and that of my family with the way things are going”.
Princess Kanu said it was wrong for the Federal Government to have charged his brother with terrorism, noting that this was the height of tyranny. “Will someone help tell President Muhammadu Buhari that this is a democratic dispensation, not autocratic government where he was the General?
She said charging Nnamdi with terror- ism means equating him with Boko Haram members, saying it was the height of injustice and a way to continue in humiliating and assaulting an unarmed civilian which she said was not the right thing to do.

Biafra: MASSOB rejects South East governors’ intervention
THE lingering agitation for the sovereign state of Biafra may be very far from ending as a faction of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has reportedly rejected the outcome of Sunday meeting of South East Governors’ Forum on ways to end the agitation and protests.
MASSOB’s factional National Director of Information, Uchenna Madu told newsmen in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State yesterday they were not satisfied with the meeting of Igbo leaders last weekend as they did not show any seriousness to the plight of detained Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
“How can revered Igbo leaders waste a whole day in a marathon meeting without discussing our simple demand of Nnamdi Kanu’s release?. Are they afraid of the northern oligarchy, Western alliance with the North or President Muhammadu Buhari ?”
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Chief Simon Okeke has blasted sponsors of pro- Biafra agitators, just as he appealed to Federal Government not to order shoot-on-sight on them.
Chief Okeke, at a press briefing at his Amichi residence, yesterday, in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State said sponsors of the protests across the South East and South South geo-political zones were to blame for the heightening tension. “Are people protesting in Onitsha, Enugu, Aba, Asaba, and so on genuinely disposed to the agitation? If proper scrutiny is made, you will discover that the proponents of Biafra may be doing that out of selfishness because they are exploiting our people in the diaspora.
Also, Regent of Igboland and Traditional Prime Minister of Ndigbo, Chief Michael Ozua Okoye has cautioned MASSOB and Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB) over self determination agitation by the group.
Okoye said this in an interaction with Daily Sun, adding that “Ndigbo cannot afford to go into another war after the Nigerian civil war where many Igbo people died.”
He added that most Igbo leaders, who fought and died championing the cause of Nigeria believed in the unity of one Nigeria.
In a related development, National Coordinator of the Rochas Fan Club has blamed a deliberate marginalisation of the South East geopolitical zone for the resurgence for the agitation of Biafra.
He urged the Federal Government to adhere to the principles of federal character for the unity and peace of the country.
Rev. Dr Simeon Nwaulu, who stated this yesterday in Owerri, Imo State at a press conference noted that the South East was the most marginalised zone in the country.
Also, Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) has alleged to have commenced negotiation with the Federal Government on how to resolve the issues surrounding the protests by IPOB and MASSOB, with an aim to secure an unconditional release for Kanu.source the sun
DHQ alerts on new terror plots
THE Defence Headquarters (DHQ) yesterday alerted the public on new plots by terrorists who now plant Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on attractive objects in public places.
Acting Director Defence Information (DDI), Colonel Mohammed Rabe, who made this known at a meeting with correspondents in Abuja, said terrorists now conceal cluster bombs in attractive objects to attack people.
He warned members of the public not to get carried away by this new and dangerous trend by the terrorists who are now desperate after they have been routed from their strongholds in Sambisa Forest by soldiers.
Col. Rabe also advised Nigerians not to rush to bomb scenes immediately after an attack as there could be a possibility for a second IED to explode, thereby increasing the casualty figure.
The Defence spokesman said five suspected Boko Haram terrorists on the wanted list of the Army have so far been arrested by security agencies.
Rabe, who said Boko Haram is also using under-aged children to carry out attacks, noted that terrorists also plant bombs on very attractive objects in churches, mosques, markets, motorparks and other public places to attract innocent members of the public to strike, warned the people to be cautious when they come across such objects.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, yesterday blamed the emergence of Boko Haram on wrong Islamic teachings. He said twisted interpretation of the Islamic precepts berthed an extreme ideology in restive youths who dominated the terror group.
Buratai, who opened a two-day seminar organized by the Directorate of Islamic Affairs of the Nigerian Army to enlighten and de-radicalize minds of people on terrorism and misinterpretation of Islam at the Maimalari Cantonment, 7 Division in Maiduguri, Borno State, noted that it was time people embrace and teach true religious knowledge devoid of any ulterior interpretation.
“Muslims are faced with ignorance and wrong interpretation of Islam. We have to sensitize the public to embrace the true teachings of Islam, as propagated by Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as anything outside that, does not represent Islam,” he said.
The COAS, who was represented by the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj Gen Abubakar Yasha’u, said miscreants and criminals terrorizing people in the northeast under the guise of Islam, have gone out of the real teaching and interpretation of the religion as taught by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his disciples. He said such teachings have misled people into wrong acts including terrorism.
Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai, represented by the Wali of Borno, Wali Idris, described the seminar as timely. He said it would sensitize people about what true Islam is all about. “Nigerians should be their brother`s keeper irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliations, as all of us belong to the same country and cannot develop without peaceful coexistence. Our doors are always open to the security agencies to seek useful advice and suggestions on any security matter”, the Shehu stated.
Director of Islamic Affairs in the Army, Col. S. Mustapha, said some people have failed to heed several warnings on the false teachings of some clerics in the society. “Despite Islamic warning against extremism and terrorism, some people did not heed the warning, but always embark on distorting the real meaning of Qur`anic verses and Hadith, disseminating wrong information on Islam, in order to lure ignorant Muslim youths into crime in the name of fighting Jihad,” he said.

Fears in Bayelsa as gunmen abducts Sylva’s cousin
There are fears in the camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over
the kidnap of Mr Koinpreye Douglas, a cousin of the APC governorship
candidate and former governor, Timipre Sylva.
Recently, Madam Ebibafegha Dikoro Igiri, the 105-year-old mother of Sylva’s running mate, Wilberforce Igiri, was abducted from her home in Foroupa community in Southern Ijaw local government. She was released after about N13 million was allegedly paid as ransom.
Investigations indicated that Douglas was kidnapped on Monday afternoon along Ogbia-Brass waterways on his way to attend the APC governorship rally in Brass local government area. Mr Nathan Egba, Director of Media and Publicity of Sylva Campaign Organisation, who was in one of the boats, confirmed that Douglas was the only one seized from the ill-fated boat. The family is said to be apprehensive because the kidnappers are yet to make any contact with the family.

Fuel scarcity: Buhari escapes summons, Senate probes shortage 5
ALL Progressives Congress (APC) Senators yesterday shut down moves by
the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to summon President
Muhammadu Buhari, who is also the Minister of Petroleum Resources, to
appear before the Senate over the biting fuel scarcity.
In a motion sponsored by Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North) and co-sponsored by 23 others, the lawmakers expressed worries over the endless fuel scarcity and the hardship it has inflicted on Nigerians.
“We are worried that the scarcity is creating an untold hardship to our citizens who have to pay higher prices for these products especially petrol. We are convinced that the current situation is not in tune with the desire of the progressively-inclined government to bring”, he said.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia South), urged the Senate to summon the President to tell law- makers why the government was yet to resolve the lingering fuel crisis, despite claims that the refineries were working.
Abaribe’s amendment to the motion was defeated when the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, put it up for a voice vote. APC Senators who were obviously more in number, drowned the voices of their PDP counterparts.
Meanwhile, the Senate has mandated its Committee on Petroleum Downstream to urgently examine all is- sues associated with the current scarcity of petroleum products and determine how the legislature could collaborate with the executive to bring a lasting solution that will prevent any future problem of fuel scarcity. The committee is expected to report back to the Senate as soon as possible. SOURCE THE SUN

When Girls Took Over the United Nations
When Girls Took Over the United Nationsi
t was a most unforgettable day for the pre-teens and teenage girls from all over the world who gathered at the Trusteeship Council Chambers of the United Nations Headquarters in New York for a summit to celebrate the 2015 International Day of the Girl.
The stage performances of the Working Group on Girls, their speeches and their amazing intellectuality at such a young age must have made an indelible impression on the mind of every girl and convinced them that they have the world at their feet no matter what the situation is right now.
As an adult, I was awestruck. I was delighted that girls could think the way the performers expressed themselves and even happier that other girls could experience them. Even the most repressed soul would have been sensitised to speak. I thank God for the opportunity to be invited for a cause I’m so passionate about. Alas, Africa was poorly represented. I was there to represent the Girls Club of Nigeria and also doubled informally as the Nigerian representative. Sadly, I didn’t come across any other person from Nigeria at the summit.
Most of the issues showcased are issues paralysing the destiny of girls and the female folk in Africa such as child marriage, female genital mutilation, child abuse, sexual harassment, rape amongst others. Akila from Egypt told us about her mother, who married her father when she was 14 and got pregnant at 16. Unfortunately, things are worse for this generation of girls, as one out of three girls is forced into early marriage before the age of 18.
Valentina from Colombia told her story of the domestic violence she witnessed in her own home. And in the world today, every 10 minutes one girl dies out of violence. Gillian from the United States opened up about her experience as a pregnant teen who was kicked out of the house. Aria from Brazil told about her experience with sexual harassment during the World Cup.
Camilla of Nicaragua told us how she only got an education up until 5th grade while her brothers continued their education long after that. Maya shed some light on the issue of Female Genital Mutilation, which she had to undergo at the age of 5. However, Fatima, Chioma and Modupe were nowhere to be found to talk about their experiences in Nigeria the citadel of child marriage, female oppression etc.
The Deputy Executive Director, UN Women in her speech wished the girl child had started speaking out earlier opining that life would have been a lot better for the female folk today. She affirmed the commitment of the United Nations Women towards empowering all females starting from their childhood, freeing them from all forms of discrimination, violence and ensuring they have equal opportunities in education and access to all resources boys have access to.
No doubt the girls who performed at the summit rewrote the history of the girl and one can only pray that other girls all over the world would join hands together to fight for the good life they are entitled to. If they don’t speak out about their discomfort, who would?
Girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life, not only during these critical formative years, but also as they mature into women. If effectively supported during the adolescent years, girls have the potential to change the world-both as the empowered girls of today and as tomorrow’s workers, mothers, entrepreneurs, mentors and political leaders.FROM THIS DAY

Kogi Guber Electioni: APC Candidate Audu Is Dead
The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Kogi state, Abubakar Audu, is dead.
Sahara Reporters first broke the news that Audu passed away of undisclosed medical reason just after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced the results of the voting and had declared the election inconclusive.
Naij.com correspondents rushed to Audu’s house in Lokoja to
confirm the authenticity of the report. He was previously said to have
left his country home in Ofu LG for Lokoja, the state capital. The
phones of his aides were switched off.

Upon arrival, Naij.com exclusively reported that Audu’s house in Lokoja was deserted. Sources around the mansion said the APC candidate had never shown up in his Lokoja house as previously reported.
Meanwhile, famous publisher Dele Momodu posted a shocking tweet:
Audu’s close friend who pleaded for anonymity also confirmed the information to Premium Times: “Audu is gone.”
The source added the politician was suddenly took ill and was was being rushed to Abuja preparatory to be flown abroad for treatment. However, his life could not be saved. Sahara Reporters adds that the burial date is already known, which is November 23.

One of the locals, Dominic Babadamina, told Naij.com that a prominent prophet in the state had predicted that Audu would not govern Kogi again. The resident, however, refused to provide the cleric’s name.
It should be noted that according to the results as counted by the INEC in the evening of November 22, the APC polled 240,867, while the PDP received 199,514.
However, the election was declared inconclusive as the leading margin was below the number of registered voters in cancelled polling units.
from naij.com
Sahara Reporters first broke the news that Audu passed away of undisclosed medical reason just after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced the results of the voting and had declared the election inconclusive.

There was also anxiety in social media, as some claimed that Audu is safe and alive saying that the information about his death was simply a rumour. See one of the Facebook posts (which, however, was deleted shortly after the publication):
The official confirmation has been finally provided.

THE MYSTEERT OF FRACE'S MOST WATED MAN
Salah Abdeslam: The mystery of France's most-wanted man
By Tim Lister, CNN.
CNN)Salah Abdeslam
-- the only one of the suspected Paris attackers known to have survived
-- is still at large and still very much at the center of a mystery.
Nine
days after the terror attacks that killed 130 people, a clearer picture
is emerging of his movements -- and it seems Abdeslam fled the city
late on the night of November 13 in a state of panic.
Information
from sources close to the investigation draw a picture of a man on the
run, and how that run began. On the evening of the attacks, Abdeslam,
26, was thought to have been the driver of a black Renaut Clio that
dropped off three suicide bombers near the Stade de France.
Then
he drove five kilometers south; sources say he was probably en route
when his older brother Ibrahim blew himself up at the Comptoir Voltaire
café.
Four days later, last
Tuesday, the Clio was found abandoned in the Place Albert Kahn in Paris'
18th arrondissement. It appeared to have been parked hurriedly on a
pedestrian crossing.
This
is where the mystery begins. Was Abdeslam meant to carry out a separate
attack? Or join the men who had already burst into the Bataclan theater? Or return to Brussels, where he lived, to plan another attack?
Whatever
the plan may have been, Abdeslam stayed under the radar for four hours
amid the chaos enveloping the French capital, sources said. Then, at
about 2 a.m, he allegedly made a call to acquaintances in the Belgian
capital and asked them to collect him.

Doctor's photo of Paris attack aftermath goes viral 02:09
Moroccan-born
Mohammed Amri, 27, and Hamza Attou, 21, arrived in Paris at about 5
a.m. and picked up Abdeslam from the Barbes district, close to where he
had abandoned his car.
They set out
immediately on the return trip. But it was not without incident. The car
was stopped by police close to Cambrai, which is near the Belgian
border, and its occupants had their documents checked. But at that time
-- around 9 a.m. -- French authorities had not established who might
have carried out the attack, and the three men were allowed to continue
to Brussels.
One source close to the
investigation told CNN: "Police saw that one of them had a criminal
record, but there was nothing to link them to the attacks."
It
was later that French police realized Abdeslam's alleged involvement --
probably after discovering another car he had rented which had three
AK-47s in the trunk.
By then he had
vanished. Amri and Attou were arrested after returning to Brussels and
have since been charged with "complicity in terrorist attacks and
participation in the activities of terrorist organizations."

Messages of solidarity for a grieving France 02:15
Adding
to the mystery about Abdeslam's alleged role was an audio and video
message from ISIS issued the morning after the attacks. It referred to
"eight brothers" -- but only seven had been involved in the actual
attacks, according to police. And it glorified their operations in 10th,
11th and 18th arrondissements-- except there had been no operation in
the 18th arrondissement, where Abdeslam had allegedly parked.
One
source familiar with investigators' thinking told CNN: "His movements
make no sense. The way he dumped the vehicle, the hours that passed
before he made a call to people who are now alleged conspirators, using
the main autoroute (highway) to Belgium, it seems he lost control."
The
lawyers for Amri and Attou insist their clients had no knowledge of
what Abdeslam was suspected of doing in Paris. Carine Couquelet, who
represents Attou, said her client had found Abdeslam "extremely agitated
and maybe ready to blow himself up."
Speaking
with Belgian network LCI, Couquelet said Attou had mentioned Abdeslam
carrying "a big jacket and other things, maybe something like an
explosive belt or something like that."
But he had been calm at the checkpoints the three had to negotiate on their way back to Brussels, according to Attou's account.
Couquelet
then asked the questions that are probably preoccupying French and
Belgian investigators as they continue the search for Abdeslam.
"There
are a few hypotheses to take into account: Was he part of the group [of
terrorists]? Was he logistical support? Was he supposed to blow himself
up? Was he supposed to do it and didn't have the courage to? We don't
know."
