The Money Was For Campaigns - Dokpesi

The chairman of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Raymond Dokpesi, who has explained what the N2.1 billion he collected from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Sambo Dasuki, was meant for.
Raymond Dokpesi
According to Sahara Reporters, Dokpesi in a statement signed by the management of DAAR Communications Plc, made it known that around 2.00pm yesterday, the Ag. chairman of the EFCC, Alhaji Ibrahim Magu, invited him to the commission through a phone call. When he got there, he was requested to, “shed more light on some payments that were made to him through the office of the erstwhile NSA to the former President, Malam Sambo Dasuki.”
Dokpesi explained to the EFCC officials that ”the N2.1 billion that he collected from the former NSA was payment for publicity and media political campaigns during the 2015 general elections.”
According to the signed statement, Dokpesi “made his statement on the various media exposures and campaign transactions which were dutifully carried out based essentially on contractual obligations/relationship.”
The statement however did not go deep into how the office of the National Security Adviser turned into the cashier office for the payment of campaign expenses and the source of the money.

N200bn education fund diverted in 2 years –Senate

SENATE, yesterday, revealed that about N200 billion education tax collected between 2012 and 2013 were diverted to unknown and unspecified uses not recognised in or permitted under the Act setting up the Education Trust Fund. The funds were diverted during former presidnt Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. A probe was subsequently ordered. The revelation was contained in a motion sponsored by Senator Abdullahi Aliyu. Senator Aliyu noted that some institutions got multiple allocations of special intervention, while institutions that are their peers did not receive any within the period under review. “About N200 billion of education tax collected between 2012 and 2013 were diverted. “Tertiary Education Trust Fund Board granted a loan to the Federal Ministry of Education and also organised a workshop and pre-retreat in the United States of America and Kenya in 2014-2015 without recourse to guidelines of the Act. “About N500 million was budgeted for advertising and media in the 2015 budget which contravenes the rehabilitation, restoration and consolidation of tertiary education in Nigeria, in accordance with Section 3(1) of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Act 2011.” Attempts by Senator James Manager to convince the Senate to extend the probe beyond 2011 failed. He had argued that it was unfair for the Senate to single out Jonathan’s administration for scrutiny. He posited that it should be extended to 1999 to exhaustively cover all the areas. Regardless, Senate mandated its Committee on Tertiary Institutions and Testfund to invite the fund’s executive secretary to appear before it to explain and clarify issues of misappropriation of the fund. The committee is expected to report back to the Senate within one month.SOURCE THE SUN

PHOTOS: Troops Arrest Wanted 11-Yr-Old Boko Haram Suicide Bomber

Vigilant troops providing security at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, Dalori in Maiduguri, Borno state have arrested a potential child suicide bomber, Master Usman Modu Tella, yesterday afternoon, Tuesday December 1.
Master Usman Modu Tella
Report made available by the acting director Army public relations officer, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the 11-year-old Tella is suspect number 82 on the poster containing the photographs of 100 wanted suspected Boko Haram terrorists released by the Nigerian Army
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was from Bama town and is among 4 other children trained for suicide bombing by the Boko Haram terrorists. He further added that the 3 others have already carried out their missions at different locations. His job was to do same in the camp sometime in the future.
The boy also pointed out one other at the camp. Recall that due to the concerted efforts of the military, quite a number of towns and villages hitherto held by the Boko Haram terrorists were liberated. This brought about an unprecedented influx of IDPs to the camp which the terrorists took advantage and infiltrate in order to wreck more havoc among the society. The case of these suspects clearly indicated this point, hence, the need for proper screening of all IDPs with a view to ascertain their true identity.
The apprehension of the suspects is a boost to the fight against terrorism and insurgency in that they were assisting with investigation that would lead to the arrest of more suspected terrorists in the camp and elsewhere. See photos below:

DSS moves Dasuki to EFCC

DEPARTMENT of State Services (DSS) has moved former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki to the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The operatives of DSS picked up Dasuki on Tuesday after laying siege to his residence for about a month and restricted his movement. Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Abuja will sit today on motion filed by the Federal Government seeking to revoke Dasuki’s bail. At the last resumed hearing of the suit, lawyer to the Federal Government, Mr. Mohammed Diri, told the court that a notice of appeal had been lodged at the Court of Appeal challenging the judgment of the court granting bail to the former NSA. Dasuki, who had pleaded not guilty to previous charges of alleged illegal possession of firearms and money-laundering preferred against him by DSS, had earlier been granted bail by a Federal High Court to enable him seek medical attention. He was arrested by DSS on his alleged involvement in the $2 billion arms procurement deal in former president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.SOURCE THE SUN

Protest turns tragic: Many killed at Onitsha

DAYS of protests calling for the release of Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, turned tragic yesterday in Onitsha as many people were reported killed. Nkiruka Anthonia Ikeanyionwu, 21, a student of Federal College of Education Umunze, Anambra State was said to be among the dead. She was killed during the Biafra protest. Family sources alleged “Nkiruka was killed by security forces.” Also, Onitsha-bound passengers, including civil and public servants were stranded yesterday in Awka and neighbouring towns as commuter buses and vehicles could not access the commercial city. This followed the blockade of all junctions close to Onitsha by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) protesting Kanu’s detention in Abuja. Those who left Awka earlier in the afternoon to Onitsha reportedly sent messages to those in still Awka not to bother to come to Onitsha as there was no entry into the city. The protesters, who also set bonfires with a warning on the road, that “today’s protest would be worse,” blocked junctions like Nkpor, Tarzan, Nkwelle, Old Road, Owerri Road, among others. Thereafter, traders in Onitsha Main Market were seen trekking home, as there was no vehicle to convey them home due to fear of vandalisation of their vehicles by the protesters, causing serious hardship and stress to the traders. New Leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Uchenna Madu, said the joint protest would continue until Kanu is released. According to him, “we had earlier raised the alarm that Federal Government wanted to label us a violent group in order to clampdown on our members. That is what is exactly happening now. “Since we started across South-East and parts of the South-South zone, nobody has been attacked, neither have we burnt or attack any person or office or church or mosque…”SOURCE THE SUN
